3 Also 19th July.  Something you might want to organise
yourself , in your street / area. The Big Lunch, on Sunday 19th July 2009, and this is your invitation.

The Big Lunch is inviting you and all 61 million people across the UK to simultaneously sit down to eat lunch with your neighbours, in the middle of your street as a simple act of community.

A new initiative run by the Eden Project, The Big Lunch encourages communities to come together through growing food and flowers; creating street music, art and theatre; dressing the street and, of course, cooking and eating together.

The day after the Big Lunch, people will walk down their street and know someone in most windows. However, the legacy of The Big Lunch is much bigger than just the day after…   The aim is to give people the tools to strengthen their communities which will be encouraged through longer term action improving local amenities such as youth centres, sharing resources from lawnmowers to land to cars; supporting local charities both with money and volunteering time and by Making Local Food Work!

If you are already involved in a Making Local Food Work project, why not use The Big Lunch as a thought raiser and an opportunity to increase interest in Local Food.  Let’s get people up and down the country to grow their own and sell their own, to buy in bulk and join local Food Co-ops and to share resources within the community for The Big Lunch.

Organising a Big Lunch is really easy.  The Big Lunch website and printed Guide Book will take you through the process step by step, giving you the tools, templates and resources to make it as simple as possible. You’ll find inspirational ideas and top tips, and you can set up your own Big Lunch, or find others planning one in your street or area by simply entering your post-code on our Big Lunch map.

5 FEEDBACK FROM THE CLIMATE CHANGE EVENT ON 6.6.09

Well done Nigel Todd , the WEA / OU and unison, and other organisers.  About 100 adults and 50

children came and joined in workshops on Rejazzing old clothes, worm composting,

Making paper plant pots and planting seeds (Rachel).

A local food and Land Quiz  (Steve).  Greening the Workplace.

Prof Dermot Roddy gave a keynote speech about Green and not so Green Technologies,

The Lawnmowers theatre gave us a play on Green issues.

I never got to the workshops the children did, but the feedback was good.

We had a stall and now have some more people on our contact list.
Chris ran a stall for Transition, and we met lots of enthusiastic people.

Anyone wanting to run modifications of the local food quiz, contact steve at
