Transition Initiative Newcastle

About

We are working to bring people together in Newcastle communities to create local solutions to improve the quality of life and to make the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon lifestyle and economy

We are working to bring people together in Newcastle communities to create local solutions to improve the quality of life and to make the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon lifestyle and economy.

Our shared concern is to tackle the issues around responding to the challenges, and opportunities, of Peak Oil and Climate Change?

We have started by organizing events aimed at awareness-raising around peak oil, climate change and the need to undertake a community-led process to rebuild resilience and reduce carbon.

We are aiming to:

connect with existing groups in the community

build bridges to local government

connect with other transition initiatives

form groups to look at all the key areas of life (food, energy, transport, health, heart & soul, economics & livelihoods, etc)

kick off projects aimed at building people’s understanding of resilience and carbon issues and community engagement

eventually launch a community defined, community implemented “Energy Descent Action Plan” over a 15 to 20 year timescale
